What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a professional skin treatment that uses a controlled acid solution to remove the outermost layers of skin. As the treated skin peels away over the following days, it reveals fresh, new skin underneath that's smoother, brighter, and more evenly toned. Chemical peels have been used for decades and remain one of the most effective professional skin treatments available. They work at a deeper level than topical skincare products can reach, making them effective for concerns that creams and serums alone can't fully address. At SC Signature, Sharon selects the appropriate peel type and strength based on your skin's condition, sensitivity level, and the concerns you want to address. The goal is visible improvement with manageable downtime.

The Chemical Peel Process

1

Skin Assessment

Sharon examines your skin, discusses your concerns (fine lines, dark spots, acne scarring, texture), and reviews your current skincare routine. This determines the best type and strength of peel for your skin.

2

Cleanse & Prep

Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped. Any makeup, oil, and debris are removed to ensure the peel solution can work evenly across your skin.

3

Peel Application

The chemical solution is applied evenly to the treatment area. You may feel tingling, warmth, or mild stinging — this is normal and indicates the peel is working. Sharon monitors your skin's reaction throughout.

4

Neutralize & Soothe

After the appropriate processing time, the peel is neutralized and removed. A calming, hydrating mask or serum is applied to soothe the skin and begin the healing process.

5

Protect

SPF and protective products are applied. Sharon provides detailed aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and results.

What Can a Chemical Peel Treat?

Chemical peels are versatile treatments that address multiple skin concerns simultaneously. The results are cumulative — a series of peels delivers more dramatic improvement than a single treatment.

Great For

  • +Fine lines and early signs of aging
  • +Sun damage and dark spots (hyperpigmentation)
  • +Acne scarring and post-inflammatory marks
  • +Uneven skin texture and rough patches
  • +Dull, lackluster complexion
  • +Enlarged pores
  • +Mild acne and breakouts

Not Ideal For

  • -Active cold sores or herpes simplex (can cause flare-ups)
  • -Currently using Accutane (must be off for 6+ months)
  • -Sunburned or severely irritated skin
  • -Pregnant or nursing (some peels are contraindicated)

Chemical Peel Pricing

Chemical peels at SC Signature start at $170+ for a 60-minute session. The exact price depends on the type and strength of peel used. Many clients see the best results with a series of 3-6 peels spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Sharon will recommend a treatment plan during your consultation based on your goals and budget.

Chemical Peel Aftercare

  • Wear SPF 30 or higher every day during the healing process — your new skin is especially sun-sensitive
  • Do not pick, peel, or scratch flaking skin — let it shed naturally to avoid scarring
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 1-2 weeks after treatment
  • Skip retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and other active ingredients for 5-7 days
  • Keep skin hydrated with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer
  • Avoid heavy makeup for 24-48 hours after treatment
  • Expect mild redness, tightness, and peeling for 3-7 days — this is normal healing
  • Do not exercise heavily or use saunas for 24-48 hours (sweat can irritate healing skin)
